Bob Johnston was an El Dorado High School athlete who excelled and lettered in three sports; football, basketball and track in 1965, 1966 and 1967. After receiving honorable mention on the All-Ark Valley League teams in basketball and football in 1967, he was placed on the second team All-League team in 1968.
Bob did not play baseball in high school, but did through the summer starting in the El Dorado Recreational Program. In 1964 he played on the El Dorado Elks All-Star Team that placed 3rd in the state and he caught in the junior league.
Bob played four years of American Legion baseball, 1965-68. He was the catcher on the 1966 State American Legion Championship Team. He played 3rd base and shortstop in 1967-68. The 1967 team placed 4th in the state. In 1968, he was selected to play for the Kansas American Legion Western all-star team against the Eastern All-Stars.

During his high school days, Bob was elected class president in 1964, 1966 and 1967. He was a Boys State Representative in 1966 and received the prestigious Larry E. McSpadden award his senior year.
