AVL Record 8-2 Champions
Overall Record 17-8 State Tournament 3rd Place

The El Dorado High School baseball team qualified for the 5A-6A State Tournament by defeating Wichita Northwest in Wichita 6-0. Vincent Lara pitched a one-hitter, striking out twelve Northwest batters. Eddie Fagg, Tim Feller and Jerry Haskell hit run scoring doubles. It was the first Regional Championship for EHS since 1953. This was also the first time an El Dorado High School team completed in the State Tournament since 1959.

In the 5A-6A State Tournament, EHS won their first game, but had to go eight innings to down Olathe 9-8. Mark Carter, in relief of Vincent Lara, picked up the win. Calvin Andrews had three hits and two RBI's. The Cats scored six runs in the second inning to take the lead, scoring two of the runs on squeeze bunts. In the semi-finals, Shawnee Mission East defeated El Dorado 6-3. The Cats were limited to just three hits and trailed the entire game. Due to extensive rain delays, the 3rd place game was played at 2:00 A.M. on Monday morning. El Dorado rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to defeat Arkansas City 6-5, Kurt Weigel went the distance on the mound, allowing no earned runs and striking out eight. EHS was the highest placing 5A team and, in fact, five of the Wildcats eight loses on the season were to 6A Teams.
